Oops, they did it again…
Don’t worry, we are not going to launch into some full-blown Brittney, but Yamaha have brought us a couple more portable piano upgrades to the collection and, as we aim to do here at ePianos, we want to try to let you see what the changes are in black and white (or should I say ‘ebony and ivory’? Perhaps that’s too many song-joke links to make in one blog!).
So I am going to show you the differences between the Yamaha P-145 and the Yamaha P-225.
Obviously, the pricing will tell you that the P225 is a higher specification than the P145, but what exactly do you get in that spec?
Both instruments come with the graded hammer action ‘compact’ keyboard. The compact size is just to enable both keyboards to come as slightly smaller, sleeker versions of their older counterparts, making them weigh in at just around 11 kg, just what’s needed for a portable piano. None of the integrity of the graded hammer action is lost, however, so you have a faithful reproduction of the earlier instruments.

The Yamaha P-145 has a brand new sample taken from the CFIIIS concert grand which is a favoured piano by many renowned pianists worldwide. The Yamaha P-225 has the sampling from the CFX grand piano, the same sampling as in all the Clavinova series. The P-225 also has Virtual Modelling Resonance lite. This is where the piano will reflect the nuances of the tones that are produced in a grand piano.
The two portable pianos are different in their amount of polyphony. The P-145 has 64 note polyphony and the P225 has 192 note polyphony. If you are unsure about what ‘polyphony’ is, you can read about that on this blog here.
The Yamaha P-145 has 10 voices including dual and duo mode, whereas the P-225 has 24 voices including dual and split and duo mode.
Both instruments come with USB-to-Host MIDI & AudioSmart Pianist app / Rec’n’Shareapp connectivity and both now have 7W x 7W amplifiers.
Extras on the P-225 include:
