Ever plugged in your sustain or volume pedal on your Yamaha PSR-SX or Genos keyboard, only to find it works the wrong way around? You press it down, expecting a beautiful sustain or a smooth volume increase… and instead, it cuts off your sound or lowers the volume. Talk about frustrating! 🤦♂️
If you’ve ever found yourself scratching your head over this, you’re not alone. It’s a common issue, and thankfully, it’s an easy fix—once you know how.
In the video below, I walk you through exactly why this happens and, more importantly, how to correct it so your pedal behaves the way it should. Whether you’re using a PSR-SX700, PSR-SX900, Genos 1, or Genos 2 (excluding SX600), this guide will have you back in business in no time.

While we’re on the topic of Yamaha keyboards, if you’ve been considering an upgrade—or maybe just a more budget-friendly option—the PSR-SX900 is worth a serious look. It’s the predecessor to the PSR-SX920, so while it may not have the very latest updates, it’s still an absolute powerhouse of an arranger keyboard.
We currently have used PSR-SX900 models starting from just £949, making it a fantastic lower-priced alternative to its newer sibling. If you don’t mind missing out on a couple of newer features, the SX900 still delivers phenomenal sound, top-tier styles, and fantastic playability—without breaking the bank.
