If you’ve been browsing for a beginner digital piano lately, there’s a good chance the Yamaha P-145 has popped up on your radar. It’s sleek, slim, and ticks a lot of boxes for anyone starting their piano journey or looking for a reliable, compact instrument. But now, there’s a slightly different version doing the rounds: the Yamaha P-145BT.
So, what does the ‘BT’ actually stand for? In short: Bluetooth.
What’s New in the P-145BT?
Let’s not overcomplicate it — the Yamaha P-145BT is functionally identical to the standard P-145, with one key upgrade: Bluetooth audio streaming. This means you can pair your phone, tablet, or computer and stream your favourite songs, backing tracks, or YouTube tutorials directly through the piano’s built-in speakers.
It might not sound like a game-changer, but according to Isaac from the ePianos team, it’s a feature that brings the P-145 bang up to date.
“A lot of players, especially those interested in entry-level keyboards, expect Bluetooth these days. It lets them play along with their favourite songs or backing tracks without faffing with cables.”

Why the P-145 (BT or not) Still Stands Out
Even without the Bluetooth, the P-145 was already a seriously solid beginner’s option. Now with the added connectivity, it becomes even more appealing. Here’s what makes it such a winner:
Great Feel for the Money
“It feels brilliant,” Isaac says. “The weighted keys are great and for the money, you can’t argue.” Yamaha uses their newly designed GHC (Graded Hammer Compact) action, which gives a realistic weighted feel in a slim body. It’s full-sized and satisfying to play, even for those used to acoustic pianos.
Impressive Sound, Surprisingly Powerful Speakers
Despite its compact form, the P-145BT has great-sounding speakers.
“The speakers are great, especially for a portable instrument,” Isaac notes. It’s not just loud — it’s expressive, rich, and genuinely inspiring to play on.
Ultra-Portable for Gigs, Lessons, or Home Use
We asked Isaac where he sees the P-145BT fitting into people’s lives.
“Where space is restricted, the P-145 is perfect. Student accommodation, kids’ bedrooms, little home studios — it’s slim enough to fit anywhere. Plus, it’s great for gigging because you can stick it in a gig bag and throw it over your shoulder.”
Beginner-Friendly With Room to Grow
It’s beginner-friendly, no doubt — but not in a way that limits you.
“It’s a high-quality keyboard without breaking the bank,” Isaac says. He even reckons most new players should skip the old P-45 entirely and start straight on the P-145BT.
“Then, when they progress, they can move onto something like a Clavinova.”
The Bonus of Apps and Bluetooth
Pair it with Yamaha’s Smart Pianist or the popular Flowkey app, and suddenly you’ve got a guided learning experience that keeps things interactive and fun. Isaac agrees that Bluetooth audio is more than just a gimmick.
“Apps like Flowkey are really useful. Streaming audio can keep players inspired and becomes a great tool once you’re a little more advanced.”
Should You Upgrade from the P-45?
If you’re currently playing on a Yamaha P-45 and wondering whether to move up to the P-145BT — Isaac’s advice? Do it.
“They’d definitely notice the difference in quality. The P-145 is a better place to start, full stop.”

Final Word
So, why would Isaac recommend the P-145BT above anything else in its price range?
“It has such a fantastic sound, plus the Bluetooth functionality — it’s definitely the most popular in this price bracket!”
Bottom line: if you’re after a full-size, great-feeling digital piano that won’t take over your flat, comes with modern features, and sounds fantastic straight out the box — the Yamaha P-145BT is probably the one.
