I made a video explaining the difference between Yamaha’s CLP, CVP and CSP digital pianos because these three product codes still cause plenty of confusion.
They are all part of Yamaha’s Clavinova range, but each one is aimed at a different type of player.
The CLP range is all about the piano-playing experience.
The focus is on the feel of the keys, the quality of the piano sound and creating something natural and expressive to play.

The CVP range adds far more sounds, rhythms and entertainment features.
You can play with accompaniment styles, explore different instruments and control everything through a large colour screen.
It suits someone who wants a proper digital piano with the creative freedom of a high-end keyboard.

The CSP range is where you can really see Yamaha responding to how people use technology today.
Instead of covering the piano in buttons and screens, most of the features are controlled through Yamaha’s Smart Pianist app.
This keeps the piano looking clean and simple while still giving you sounds, accompaniment styles, recording and helpful learning features.
The Stream Lights can even guide you towards the correct notes, which can be a real encouragement for beginners and returning players.

A CLP suits someone who mainly wants to play piano.
A CVP suits someone who wants sounds, styles and lots to explore.
A CSP suits someone who likes the idea of a modern, app-controlled piano with useful learning features.
The real question is which one would make you want to sit down and play more often.
Later in the video, I do find myself leaning towards the Yamaha CSP-295.
It gives you the feel and sound of a premium digital piano, but it also opens up a huge amount of creativity through the Smart Pianist app.
You can use it as a straightforward piano, follow the Stream Lights, add backing styles or explore different sounds without the instrument itself feeling complicated.
I also made a full review of the CSP-295 if you would like to see it in more detail.
We regularly help customers move from an older digital piano into a newer Yamaha CLP, CVP or CSP model.
Your current piano may have a useful trade-in value, and we can help with the valuation, delivery and collection to make the change as straightforward as possible.
