The moment I sat at the Kronos 3 myself, I knew I was in trouble — the good kind. Korg have always been known for their high-quality samples, but this is something else entirely. The strings feel like you’re sat in Abbey Road Studio 1, soaking in the swell of a live orchestra. The drums? As real and alive as they sound on your favourite records. These aren’t just professional-grade voices; they’re inspiring. The kind of sounds that make you want to keep playing long after you were meant to stop.
The brass patches alone are enough to make you feel like Hans Zimmer on a deadline. You hit a chord and suddenly you’re commanding an army of French horns, trombones, and trumpets — cinematic power right at your fingertips. And while we’re talking about soundtracks, it’s worth noting: this thing isn’t a one-trick pony. Pop, R&B, classical, EDM… it’s all here, all beautifully rendered.

The built-in sequencer has long been one of Korg’s crown jewels, and with good reason. Many musicians prefer it to a DAW, not just because it’s powerful, but because it’s so immediate. As a pianist, I was also drawn straight to the new Italian Piano voice — rich, nuanced, and utterly addictive.
For me, the magic of the Kronos 3 lies in the control it gives you. Some days I like to start simple — maybe a single cello line, something soft, and build layer upon layer until it’s bursting with energy. Other times, I’ll hit “go” on a full orchestra from the first note, just to feel that wave of sound. And thanks to COMBI mode, it’s easy to set up complex, multi-layered performances without needing a degree in programming.

Yes, the Kronos 3 is a beast — and I’ll admit, as a lifelong Yamaha player, Korg’s operating system felt a little alien at first. But the learning curve isn’t steep. You can start creating instantly, and as you dig deeper, it rewards you with more and more possibilities.
By the time I’d finished my first session, I’d somehow wandered into composing the soundtrack for Interstellar 2 in my head. That’s the thing about the Kronos 3: it doesn’t just play notes, it pulls you into whole worlds.
If you’re a composer or performer in any genre, the Korg Kronos 3 could easily become the centrepiece of your setup. If you’re brand new to keyboards, I might suggest starting with something simpler — this much power can be a little overwhelming at first. But for those ready to step into a truly cinematic world of sound?

A Keyboard Built for the Big Screen
And if you want even more proof of just how cinematic this keyboard can be, check out when we handed the Kronos 3 to top Korg demonstrator Luke Edwards and challenged him to improvise entire movie soundtracks on the spot – from gritty 1980s cop thrillers to post-apocalyptic epics. The results were utterly ridiculous in the best possible way.
💡 Thinking of upgrading? We offer part-exchange against the Kronos 3, so you can trade in your current keyboard and step into a new league of sound.
