You may have seen there’s a new kid on the block…well four actually, but I’m going to just take a look at a couple of them today.
Yamaha have introduced their new CSP 200 series and in this are the CSP255, the CSP275 and the CSP295 both and upright and a grand version.

These are the replacements to the Yamaha CSP150 and CSP170 instruments and I’m just going to talk you through the main differences between the Yamaha CSP255 and the CSP275 in this blog.
The biggest difference between the Yamaha CSP225 and CSP275 is that the Yamaha CSP275 has wooden white keys as it’s earlier cousin, the CSP170 did, whereas the CSP255 does not.
What that means for you, the player, is that you will get a more natural and organic feel to your playing.
The differences are very similar to their two predecessors; The CSP-150 & CSP-170. Chris explains more in the video below.

Both instruments this time have had an upgrade to a half pedal function and also now feature Grand Expression Modelling. This means that the natural tones of the piano and the various nuances are now modelled on the grand piano for both these CSP instruments.
So what else actually makes the two pianos different to each other apart from the wooden keys?
The Yamaha CSP275 has 2 x (50w + 50w) amps over the 2 x 40W of the Yamaha CSP255 and (16 cm + 8 cm) × 2 speakers versus the 16cm x 2 on the Yamaha CSP255.
Bigger amps means a bigger sound for the 772 Voices + 47 Drum/SFX Kits and all the backings or music that can be played through the instrument when connected to a smart device.
Here’s a link to a video from Yamaha giving you an overview of the new series.
Both pianos link up with the brilliant Smart Pianist App and are available in Polished Ebony, White or Black.
The Yamaha Smart Pianist app is a suberb way to integrate your smart device with your digital piano and into your piano playing. Chris goes into more detail in the video below.
