There’s always something exciting about seeing what comes through our doors…
and this week we’ve got three very different Yamaha digital pianos that are well worth a closer look. Whether you’re after a flagship entertainment piano, a beautifully traditional instrument for everyday playing, or a clever smart piano that can help you learn, there’s something here to suit a wide range of players.
Buying second hand can also be a fantastic way to own a higher-spec instrument for considerably less than buying new, and these three Yamaha models are brilliant examples of just how much quality you can get for your money.

First up is this stunning polished white Yamaha CVP-709. Even a few years after its release, it’s still an incredibly impressive instrument.
The polished white cabinet immediately catches your eye, but it’s when you actually sit down to play it that you begin to appreciate just how special it is. The wooden white keys feel wonderfully authentic, while Yamaha’s powerful speaker system produces a rich, detailed piano sound that’s a joy to listen to.
Of course, the CVP series is about far more than just piano.
Inside you’ll find hundreds of instrument voices, from orchestral strings and choirs to guitars, electric pianos and countless other sounds. Everything feels expressive and beautifully sampled.
One of my favourite features is Piano Room. It lets you choose the type of piano you’d like to play and even the musicians you’d like accompanying you. Start with a simple acoustic guitar and percussion backing, or build up to a full live band complete with bass, drums and guitars that intelligently follow the chords you’re playing.
Switch over to a vintage electric piano and suddenly you’ve got a wonderfully soulful backing that feels inspired by classic Stevie Wonder recordings.
If you’re looking for a digital piano that can entertain, inspire and still provide a fantastic acoustic piano experience, the CVP-709 remains incredibly hard to beat.

If all you really want is an excellent digital piano that looks and feels like a traditional instrument, then the Yamaha CLP-745 is a wonderful option.
Finished in a classic cabinet with a sliding key cover, it blends beautifully into the home without looking overly technical. There aren’t dozens of buttons demanding your attention either. It’s designed to let you simply switch on and enjoy playing.
The wooden white keys provide a wonderfully realistic touch, making it an incredibly enjoyable piano to spend time with.
Although simplicity is very much the focus, Yamaha still includes some lovely musical extras.
You can choose between Yamaha’s own concert grand and the beautifully warm Bösendorfer Imperial, each offering a very different character. The Bösendorfer in particular has a wonderfully rich, mellow tone that many players fall in love with.
There’s also a simple button that layers gentle strings underneath your piano sound, creating a rich, cinematic feel without needing to navigate complicated menus.
At just £1,499 as a used model, it represents exceptional value.
The third piano is this Yamaha CSP-150, one of Yamaha’s Smart Pianos.

Unlike many digital pianos, almost everything is controlled through Yamaha’s free Smart Pianist app on your tablet or smartphone, keeping the piano itself looking beautifully clean and traditional.
One of the standout features is Yamaha’s Stream Lights learning system.
LED lights above the keys guide you through songs while the Smart Pianist app displays the sheet music. If you activate Guide Mode, the accompaniment simply waits until you’ve played the correct note before moving on, allowing you to learn entirely at your own pace.
It’s a wonderfully encouraging way to learn new music.
The Smart Pianist app also makes changing sounds incredibly simple. Whether you want Yamaha’s concert grand, the Bösendorfer, an upright piano, strings or hundreds of other instrument voices, everything is clearly laid out with colourful graphics that make the piano incredibly easy to use.
Although Yamaha has now introduced the newer CSP-200 Series, it’s still quite unusual to see a CSP-150 arrive on the used market, especially one in such lovely condition.
