Here are my top 3 pianos for adult beginners. I will start with so-called ‘entry-level’ models and then work my way up through the range.
If you are like me, the piano is something that you picked up much later in life. An old dog can learn new tricks after all! It is important you get an instrument that meets the correct standard for an adult beginner.
This is the go-to piano that I recommend to any beginner. Simply because it’s so easy to use, it sounds amazing and is very affordable. You can’t really go wrong with it.
[used-accessories]It’s the perfect entry-level piano. It has all the basic features that I deem essential for learning to play, such as…
All of the above are fairly basic in the digital piano world but are very helpful features to make your learning experience an easier one.
An added bonus is that it will hold its value, so if later down the line you wish to upgrade; you know you will get a good price for it.

The YDP-S models are ultra slimline versions of the standard YDPs. Smaller yet just as powerful. This model in particular is exactly the same as the YDP164, but just in a more modern, stylish cabinet.
As we move up this list, the technical specs will begin to get more advanced, but not so much that it will confuse a beginner.
Features such as smooth release for the realistic key touch, synthetic ebony and ivory keys for grip, and GH3 keyboard to better measure the variations of your keystrokes all make for an interesting and exciting powerhouse of a piano.
This model is perfect for a beginner living in a limited space such as a flat or shared accommodation.

David explains the differences between the Yamaha Arius YDP-S54 & YDP-164 digital pianos
This model is somewhat of a breakthrough in terms of its user interface. Controlled by a central tablet (not supplied!), this piano looks modern and uses initiative technology to unlock its full potential.
You can change the voice, reverb perimeters, styles, and much more all from the tablet. It’s a central hub for all things piano.
This piano even features ‘drop lights’ that show in correlation to the song you are playing. This is done in order to aid the learning process and improve finger placement.
Gradually move off the lights at your own speed, and you will be self-sufficient at playing in no time.
The companion app is called Yamaha Smart Pianist and is free to download. You can see our review of it by clicking here.
Learning what chords sound like and what finger placement is the best for it is the foundation of playing the piano, and the CSP-170 aids this more than any other model.
