We were very excited to have acclaimed singer-songwriter @kiamamusic (Sam Martin), in The Booth for the first time in episode #3. He shares his initial impressions and does some experimenting with the new Yamaha PSR-SX900 ‘Mini Genos’. He took us through a selection of voices and sounds and mixed them up a little to see how flexible this little songwriting machine is.
The Booth is unscripted and unplanned. We wanted to give musicians the chance to enjoy themselves while exploring the keyboards and pianos here in store.
Sam takes us through a variety of voices on the PSR SX900 and takes us through the process of layering and blending sounds using the keyboards built-in voice editor & effects. The touchscreen interface on the SX900 (also on SX700) makes jobs like edit very easy to do – it’s as easy to navigate as your iPad or tablet!
Find yourself looking at the 360 degree walkaround video in the bottom right corner of the video? Well, this is footage from a video we made which you can watch by clicking here. You can see just how slimline and compact the SX-900 is and why people are calling it the ‘mini Genos’.
Sam gives us an in-depth look at the voice part set-up section of the SX900 and boy is it powerful! He shows us how to alter various parameters of each voice (now on the SX series you can have up to 3 layers of right hand voices) – making for some really exciting sound configurations. I think my personal favourite was the grand piano sound (RIGHT1) with an 80s style pad (RIGHT2) – works a treat if you lower the volume of the pad slightly… why not add some reverb with the live control knobs too? Perhaps we’ll try that in the next video.
We look forward to having much more fun with this keyboard in The Booth. Look out for a new member joining us too.
