Hello! Today I’ve got something really lovely to show you. It’s this charming Orla Compact Theatre organ, just in, and it’s brimming with character. In this video, we’re also joined by a furry friend – so make sure to have a watch!
Now, don’t let the word “compact” fool you — this is no basic beginner model. These were about £10,000 new, so it’s quite high up in the range. And you can feel it when you sit down: you’ve got two 61-note keyboards, proper drawbars, and a huge library of preset sounds, rhythms, and variations. Honestly, it’s a bit like having an orchestra at your fingertips.
What I like most is how simple it is to just jump in and play. There are loads of built-in registrations grouped in categories like “Reality Band,” “Church Organ,” “Virtual Theatre,” and more. Each category gives you 16 sounds, and some even have A/B variations. That gives you over 100 settings ready to go — and you can still load even more using the built-in disk drive.
I started by showing the Reality Band section — the first sound is called Last Morning, and then we move into some great Dixieland and swing band setups. You can turn the rhythm section on or off, and there’s auto bass, intros, and variations that change dynamically. It’s very well orchestrated stuff, and genuinely fun to experiment with.
A few highlights:
I just love that you can hit a button, get inspired, and then build your own custom version using the drawbars.

Speaking of drawbars — they’re proper ones! You’ve got coloured sound sections and traditional flute drawbars that let you build your own tone like you would on a Hammond. You can start with just the 16′, 8′, 4′, and 2′ stops and bring in the tremolo effect for that lovely warm shimmer.
There’s a full Church Organ mode, too, ranging from gentle chapel tones to big cathedral power. If you’re playing hymns or liturgical pieces, it’s spot on. It would suit both home or church use perfectly.
The rhythm section deserves a shout too — each button gives you three styles, and each style has three variations. That’s nine groove options per rhythm category. Whether you’re playing jazz, marches, Latin or waltzes, there’s something to suit.
It’s a clever instrument, the Orla Compact Theatre. Fun to play, easy to navigate, and versatile enough to suit everything from theatre organ favourites to Sunday morning hymns.
This one is available now for £1,299 and is in lovely condition.
