Yamaha has announced four new ARIUS digital pianos: the YDP-146, YDP-166, YDP-S36 and YDP-S56.
The ARIUS range has always been a popular choice for players who want a proper home piano experience without stepping into the higher-priced Clavinova range. These new models continue that idea, with updates to the keyboard feel, speaker system and connectivity.
The simplest way to understand the range is this: the YDP-146 and YDP-166 are the traditional cabinet models, while the YDP-S36 and YDP-S56 are the slimmer, space-saving versions. The YDP-166 and YDP-S56 feature Yamaha’s new GrandTouch-E keyboard, while the YDP-146 and YDP-S36 use Yamaha’s improved GHS keyboard action.

The Yamaha YDP-146 is the more accessible traditional cabinet model in the new ARIUS range.
It gives you the classic Yamaha YDP furniture-style design, with an improved GHS keyboard action designed to offer a natural piano feel across the full range of the keyboard. This is the model many players will look at if they want their first serious digital piano for home practice, family use or lessons.
It’s the straightforward choice: traditional cabinet, Yamaha piano sound, improved keyboard response and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Yamaha YDP-166 is the higher-spec traditional cabinet model.
The key upgrade here is Yamaha’s new GrandTouch-E keyboard, which is designed to offer a more responsive and grand-piano-inspired playing experience. If you like the look of a traditional YDP cabinet but want the more advanced keyboard action in the new ARIUS range, this is the one to look at.
For progressing players, or anyone who is particularly focused on touch and expression, the YDP-166 is likely to be the more tempting option. Featured in this article
The Yamaha YDP-S36 is the slimline alternative to the YDP-146.
It shares the same idea of an improved GHS keyboard action, but places it inside a more compact cabinet. That makes it ideal for smaller rooms, flats, bedrooms or anywhere you want a proper Yamaha digital piano without a full traditional cabinet taking up space.
If you want the ARIUS experience in a cleaner, slimmer design, the YDP-S36 makes a lot of sense.

This is the one for players who want the more compact cabinet style, but don’t want to miss out on the more advanced key action found in the YDP-166.
In other words, it’s the space-saving model for players who still want the best keyboard feel available in this new ARIUS line-up.Featured in this article
All four models include Yamaha’s newly developed speaker system, designed to spread the sound more naturally throughout the room.
They also include Bluetooth functionality, allowing you to stream audio through the piano’s speakers and connect wirelessly to Yamaha’s Smart Pianist app.
The app also includes new practice features, including a Guide function that waits until the correct note is played before continuing, and a Medal Challenge feature designed to help keep practice motivating.
With the new ARIUS models now announced, it’s also a great time to look at the current Yamaha YDP pianos while remaining stock is still available.
