In recent years, printed music has become quite expensive.
I remember back in the 80s when a Busker book was £3.95, and EZ Play books started from £2.95. These were often the big show music books, with selections from things like South Pacific and The Sound of Music.
How the world has changed since then.
We’ve seen the arrival of mobile phones, tablets, home computers and laptops, and of course the portable keyboard market has changed massively too.

When I first started playing keyboard, the shop I worked in sold a mini-key Yamaha Portasound keyboard known as the PS3. It came in a brown case, had just 9 sounds and 4 rhythm styles.
That was exciting at the time.
Now, when you look at what keyboards can do for the money, it’s incredible. The sounds, styles, recording features, speakers, apps and learning tools available today would have seemed almost impossible back then.
I used to sit outside the shop I worked at in Banbury, in a pedestrian walkway, on a small stool playing the PS3 keyboard. The idea was to show possible buyers how easy it was to play and create music.
Quite different from today, where we can make a video, put it online, and thousands of people can watch it from the comfort of their own home before deciding what to buy.
We get a large selection of used music books in stock, covering all styles of music and many different types of notation.
Some are ideal for beginners. Some suit players who prefer larger print. Others are better for more experienced keyboard and organ players who are used to reading chord symbols, melody lines or full organ notation.
You may also want to consider one of our bonus bundles, which can give you even better value for money.

EZ Play books are very popular.
They have the name of the note printed inside the note itself, along with large, clear print. This makes them ideal for people with sight difficulties, or for players who are not yet quick at reading conventional music.
They are a great way to enjoy familiar songs without feeling overwhelmed by traditional notation.

Busker books have smaller print than EZ Play books, but most include lyrics and guitar chords too.
They suit players who are happy reading treble clef melody lines while following chord symbols for the left hand.
Most Busker books contain 101 songs, and because many of them have plastic binding, they are easy to open and use at the keyboard.
For one of our used Busker books at just £8 including postage, that is amazing value for 101 songs.

The Easy Keyboard Library and Easiest Keyboard Collection series are both huge ranges.
They offer similar music to the Busker books, but usually on a larger page, which many players find easier to follow.
Both series are very popular and cover a wide range of music styles and genres.
We usually have many of these books available, generally priced between £8 and £12.

Many used organ music books were written by Kenneth Baker, who really did seem to dominate the home organ music market for many years.
Kenneth Baker wrote teaching books, numbered songbooks designed to match the level of those teaching books, and many other songbooks covering all kinds of music.
Traditional organ books usually have the upper keyboard written on treble clef, the lower keyboard on bass clef, and pedal notes also shown on the bass clef.
That said, many people use these books in a simpler way, just like Busker or Keyboard Library books, by reading the chord symbols along the top and playing the melody line.

The Complete Keyboard Player books are also by Kenneth Baker.
These usually show the melody line with chord symbols above, making them very approachable for keyboard players.
They often give suggestions for sounds, settings and styles too, which can be really helpful if you are choosing what rhythm or accompaniment to use.
There are many books in this series, and the notation is generally very clear and easy to follow.

Used sheet music varies from book to book, but once you find a series you like, it is lovely to build up your own library.
It’s a bit like finding an author you enjoy when reading books. Once the style suits you, you naturally want more from the same range.
Most of our books are in great condition. Some may have a few pencil notes inside, but they are generally well looked after. Any rough ones, we simply throw away.
If you are after a particular song, please do email us. Most of our listings show the song list in the second photo, so it is worth checking there too.
Used music books are a great way to build up your repertoire and make some big savings compared with buying brand new.
Happy playing,
David
