I found myself thinking about the Yamaha Genos 2 again recently.
It has now been around for a little while, and because we work with these instruments every day, it is very easy to forget just how much excitement surrounded its original launch.
That led me back to a video I made with Yamaha’s Paul Thirkettle when the Genos 2 was first released.
It is around 37 minutes long, so this is not necessarily one to watch while you are rushing out of the door. It is more of a Saturday evening, cup of tea, feet-up-by-the-television sort of video.
Paul plays the Genos 2, demonstrates its new features and explains what Yamaha had been working to achieve with it. My job, as usual, was to ask plenty of questions.
Watching it again, what struck me most was the genuine enthusiasm we both had for the instrument.
We were impressed by the sounds, the styles, the controls and the sheer amount of musical possibility inside it. It felt like Yamaha had taken everything players already loved about the original Genos and moved it forward in a very thoughtful way.
That excitement was not put on for the camera. We really were blown away by it.

If you have been thinking about upgrading to a Genos 2, our current summer offer may make this a particularly good time.
The Yamaha Genos 2 currently starts from £3,440, including free UK mainland delivery, Yamaha’s five-year warranty and our complete 13-part GenosTipsters Video Guide.
That guide would normally be worth £120 and gives you more than eight hours of help from Chris and me. We cover registrations, playlists, voices, styles, recording, files, folders, the Chord Looper and much more.
We created it because an instrument like the Genos 2 can do an enormous amount, but sometimes you simply need somebody to sit beside you and explain things clearly.
You can also add our Genos 2 Bonus Content for only £149 instead of the usual £249, bringing the keyboard and Bonus Content package to £3,589.
This includes a huge collection of additional voices, styles, registrations, Tyros 5 content and ready-made song setups, giving you even more to enjoy from the moment your new keyboard arrives.
The dedicated Yamaha GNS-MS01 speaker system can also be added for £351 if required.

If you already own an original Yamaha Genos or a Tyros 5, and you have really taken care of it, you could receive a very good part-exchange value against a new Genos 2.
Condition makes an enormous difference. A clean, well-looked-after keyboard with its speakers, accessories and original packaging where available will always give us the best chance of offering you a strong value.
We also consider other keyboards and home organs in part exchange, so it is always worth speaking to us before assuming the move will be too expensive.
You may be pleasantly surprised by the difference you actually need to pay.
I will be here in the showroom on Monday morning, so please feel free to call me on 01295 266 788 or email sales@epianos.co.uk.
Tell me which instrument you currently own, how old it is, what condition it is in and where you are based. We can then have a proper chat about its value and the different Genos 2 packages available.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy watching the video.
It brought back some very happy memories for me, and reminded me just how special the arrival of the Genos 2 really was.
