The Yamaha CVP-909 is a stunning musical center that provides the highest quality in pure piano-playing terms, but also offers a wealth of additional features for whatever your musical aims and desires may be. When you sit down and play the Yamaha CVP-909, you’ll be playing the finest piano-style weighted keyboard available on a Clavinova digital piano.

Watch Chris explain the benefits of upgrading to the Yamaha CVP909 from earlier models.
You’ll also be hearing and expressing yourself via Yamaha’s highest-quality concert grand piano sample, which doesn’t compromise on the quality of its fundamentals.

Yamaha’s GrandTouch™️ keyboard technology is ultra-realistic, featuring wooden white keys that are authentically weighted and feel just like the real thing. The Yamaha CVP-900 series includes the genuinely superb Grand Expression Modeling sampling, which accurately captures the subtle variations in sound produced by the player, resulting in a performance that sounds like it is being played on a real acoustic concert grand piano.
GrandTouch pedal technology is also making its debut on the CVP-900 series. This innovative system enables the player to execute the ‘half pedaling’ technique with the damper pedal and hold it at ‘middle depth’ with ease. The damper pedals’ pivot point has been adjusted to resemble that of a real grand piano, which adds to the overall authenticity.
On the CVP-909 model, the damper pedal also replicates the weight of a real damper pedal, providing a truly genuine pedal response. Additionally, the pedal’s shape is designed to mimic that of a concert grand piano pedal.

The accompaniment styles are a big feature of the CVP-909. They’re ultra-realistic, and you can be convinced that you’re playing along with a real pop band or orchestra. Yamaha has great experience in sampling different instruments, and it shows in the articulation and subtleties.
There’s considerable variety in the accompaniments too, and you effectively become the conductor of the group, instructing your band or orchestra to play with more verve, play an instrumental break or ending, and change key if required. It’s all very ergonomically designed for a natural feeling performance.
If you’re a singer, then you’ll appreciate how easy it is to plug in a microphone to sing through the speaker system. There are also professional-quality digital harmonies that can enhance your singing. Usefully, these can be triggered by pressing one of the pedals of the piano.

The Yamaha CVP-909 may be the most versatile ‘music center’ ever produced. There’s so much more that you can do with the CVP-909 than just playing piano. Use it as a karaoke machine, do songwriting, compose classical music with real-sounding instruments, record with a full 16-track recording studio built-in, including mixing levels, etc. All of your creations can be easily transferred from the CVP-909 onto a USB flash drive or via a cable to a computer for sharing. Yamaha even has a great free app called Rec’n’Share, which makes sharing your performances via your smartphone or tablet easy.
Integration with your smart device is also available in another way with Yamaha’s excellent (and free) Smart Pianist app. The Smart Pianist app acts rather as a portal into the features and functions of the CVP-909 allowing you to control the Voices, Styles, and various other settings. It goes much further than this too allowing you to play your music collection through the impressive speaker & amplifier system on the CVP-909. It actually analyses the music in your devices’ collection and shows you rudimentary music notation! Check out my video where I go into more depth on the Yamaha Smart Pianist app on the Yamaha P-S500 Smart Piano below.

Music industry standard files such as MIDI songs are fully compatible and can be revoiced and mixed using the wealth of built-in Voices on the CVP-909. The subtleties and nuances of the Voices such as orchestral strings are something that Yamaha brings out better than any of their competition, and they lead in the technology of sampling instruments. The Classical guitar is a noticeable triumph with its beautiful and natural fret buzzes and string slides. You could really be convinced that Julian Bream is in the room with you!
If you are learning to play the piano, whether you are an adult or teaching a child, the features on the Yamaha CVP-909 can be wonderfully helpful and fun, not just for kids! There is a large collection of contemporary and classical songs built into the piano, which can be added to via download. These songs will not only show you the musical notation on the screen but will also display LED guide lights above the keys you should be playing. The piano can also be set up to wait for you to play the right note, rather than racing ahead of you. It’s all very cleverly done and builds on years of experience from previous editions of the Clavinova dating back decades.

Overall, the Yamaha CVP-909 is a stunning musical center, and it wouldn’t be doing it justice to simply call it a piano. It gives you the highest quality in pure piano-playing terms and also provides a wealth of additional features, whatever your music aims and desires are.
The Yamaha CVP-909 is an all-encompassing vehicle for the full expression of your musicality. It’s an incredible achievement of technological prowess, and one can only dream of what Beethoven or Mozart might have been able to produce with such an incredible plethora of musical options.

Thank you Chris. I really liked your review of how the CVP809 was a dramatic step up from the CVP709. I wonder how different the 909 is from the 809. My impression is that it is an improvement, but not as dramatic as the 809 was from the 709. Appreciate it! Don
