Modern keyboards often boast a great selection of guitar sounds, yet you might have noticed that sometimes they’re quite hard to utilise effectively to achieve that authentic sound.
Achieving authenticity when emulating guitar sounds on a keyboard presents a unique set of challenges, given the subtle and nuanced nature of both the guitar and piano.
However, with the right approach and understanding of the instrument’s capabilities, it’s entirely possible to bring those realistic guitar tones to life.

I wanted to offer some advice on how to achieve a more authentic sound on your keyboard.
In the video above, I utilise the phenomenal Yamaha Genos keyboard – which was one of Yamaha’s flagship models until it was replaced by the Genos 2 in late 2023 – to demonstrate how this can be accomplished.
The Yamaha Genos, renowned for its ultra-realistic guitar sounds, serves as an excellent example of how advanced keyboards can mimic the intricate sounds of a guitar when played with the correct parameters and utilising the available tools.
The guitar is indeed a subtly complex and nuanced instrument, and emulating its sound through a keyboard is a notable challenge.
The key to success lies in understanding the specific parameters and techniques that can make the keyboard guitar sounds come alive.
In the video, you’ll notice the efforts made to ensure that every note and strum resonates with the authenticity of a real guitar.
My tips are aimed at helping you integrate these guitar sounds more effectively into your keyboard playing, enhancing your musical expression.
During the demonstration, you might have noticed me playing ‘Cavatina’ by John Williams and offering a free copy of the Registrations I used.
These Registrations can set up your Genos 1, Genos 2, or PSR-SX700/900 exactly like the one in the video.
If you’re interested in claiming a copy for yourself, simply email us at sales@epianos.co.uk, and we’ll send it to you free of charge!
Additionally, we’re currently hosting an incredible preowned Yamaha Genos clearance sale which you can see by clicking here.
