Yamaha YDPS34 Review

Combining elegance with premium quality digital piano performance, the Yamaha YDP-S34 delivers a small profile solution to those wanting an excellent versatile instrument without taking up too much space. The Yamaha YDP-S34 would be ideally suited to a smaller home or living space for players of all levels to enjoy.

SLIM DESIGN

The YDP-S34 makes use of Yamaha’s powerful CFX sound engine to deliver a stunning piano sound sampled directly from a CFIIIS concert grand piano, one of the most acclaimed pianos to grace stages the world over. This is coupled with a huge 192 note polyphony so that you can be sure of no note drop-outs when playing incredibly complex pieces or duets. For added realism, the YDP-S34 also includes key-off samples to imitate the internals of an acoustic piano and also string resonance to emulate the natural sympathetic resonance you would get from nearby piano strings.

Alongside the grand piano, there is a collection of electric pianos and other chromatic instruments to create expressive performances. These can also be used in single, duo, dual or layered modes to create rich soundscapes or use as part of a student/teacher scenario.

TRUE PIANO FEEL

When you initially lay your hands on the Yamaha YDP-S34’s Graded Hammer (GH) keyboard, you will notice the synthetic ivory keytops that give you an authentic touch that will remain smooth and fluid to play over long performances. The keyboard action itself imitates that of a grand piano with incredible accuracy, you even have the option to choose the response sensitivity to your liking, ideal for newer players that need to develop finger strength.

HI-FIDELITY, SPACIOUS SOUND

The Yamaha YDP-S34 comes with built-in effects to give your playing some additional polish. Halls, chamber and club are ideal and work with all kinds of musical styles. The YDP-S34’s excellent sound is also present when using headphones thanks to the built-in stereophonic optimiser, this makes “boxed in” headphone sound a thing of the past so that you can play for longer periods of time without listening fatigue.

Acoustic Optimisers regulate the flow of sound when the speakers are in use so that audio is routed the same way as its acoustic counterpart making the listening experience much better for you and your audience.

Finally, the Yamaha YDP-S34 is compatible with a range of apps including smart pianist, visual performer, my music recorder and piano diary so that practice and performance can be made interactive and rewarding.
