Why a Digital Piano?
Are digital pianos as good as “real” pianos?

Most people cannot tell the difference between traditional pianos and digital pianos today. This is because modern technology is so advanced that digital pianos can replicate the touch and feel of ‘real’ pianos so accurately.

Do the keys feel real?

Yes. The keys on digital pianos are usually ‘weighted’ so the way they feel to play and react to your input is just like the real thing. Don’t think that digital pianos feel and sound like that old Casio keyboard you got for Christmas in 1986.

Do they need tuning?

No. Digital pianos never go out of tune, so never need tuning.

Do they have the right amount of keys?

Yes. Most digital pianos have the standard 88 keys.

Can I wear headphones to practice?

Yes. When you plug headphones into a digital piano the speakers are disabled so only you can hear the sound. This is ideal for practicing late at night or when you don’t want to disturb anyone. Note: The standard jack socket for headphones is 6.35mm. iPhone headphone plugs are 3.5mm so you would need an adaptor.

Why do digital piano prices vary so much?

The price of a digital piano depends on a number of factors, for example whether the keys are plastic or wooden, whether the speakers are big or small, the amount of extra features it has like rhythms and backings or multi track recordings. The cabinet design and finish is a factor too. Small portable pianos tend to be cheaper than the more traditional looking non-portable ones.

Can I connect my iPhone/iPad?

Many of the Yamaha digital pianos and keyboards allow connection to an iPad/tablet now for various purposes. Yamaha have developed a lot of apps for their instruments, you can read more about them on the App Store.

What about other manufacturers of digital piano?

We are an independent shop but choose Yamaha digital pianos exclusively because they are regarded as the best in the world. You will find Yamaha digital pianos in most music schools, colleges and universities, and teachers nearly always recommend Yamaha because of how authentic the touch and sound is.

GROUNDBREAKING FEATURES, ENHANCED CREATIVITY

The new FP-7F takes Roland’s popular FP-7 piano concept and injects four major components into the top-selling design: a SuperNATURAL Piano engine, an all-new PHA III Ivory Feel-S Keyboard with Escapement, an onboard Looper, and a mic input with companion harmony effects. This compact, contemporary piano is available in black and white finishes, with an optional RPU-3 triple-pedal unit and matching KSC-44 stand. From professional stage performance to home entertainment and enjoyment, the FP-7F represents Roland’s ongoing commitment to advanced technology and musical creativity.

  • SuperNATURAL Piano engine onboard
  • Newly developed PHA III Ivory Feel-S Keyboard with Escapement
  • Built-in speaker system
  • Onboard Looper for instant sound-on-sound layering
  • Mic input and harmony effect
  • Available in black (FP-7F-BK) and white (FP-7F-WH) finishes
  • Compatible with the RPU-3 triple-pedal unit (optional) and matching KSC-44 keyboard stand (optional)
  • DP-10 Damper Pedal included
  • SuperNATURAL Piano

The FP-7F’s crown jewel is its SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine. With SuperNATURAL Piano technology, three essential elements are dramatically improved: velocity response, note decay, and key range behavior. Where previous sample-based technology created coarse “stair-step” gaps in velocity and key range, and unnatural looping in note decay, SuperNATURAL Piano technology bridges the gaps with perfectly smooth and natural three-dimensional sound and response.

  • New PHA III Ivory Feel-S Keyboard

The FP-7F features Roland’s newly developed PHA III Ivory Feel-S Keyboard with Escapement. With the same progressive hammer action and escapement as the top-line PHA III, it offers unmatched expression and performance authenticity, capable of transforming the most subtle finger nuances into sound. It also provides incredibly fast key-repetition action. The surface of each white key replicates the unique appearance and comfortable feel of real ivory keys. The keys are constructed of a one-piece proprietary material that provides excellent moisture absorbency and a premium all white appearance around the tops and sides of the keys.

  • Onboard Looper

Expand your musical creativity with the onboard Looper, which is fully optimized for keyboard players. You can instantly create overdubbed loops using the sounds of the FP-7F itself and/or audio from the mic input (see below). For instant musical adrenaline, tap into the built-in library of rhythm patterns; each pattern has a matching intro and ending, great for songwriters and performers. The Looper can be easily operated with front-panel buttons, while the optional RPU-3 triple-pedal unit offers advanced foot control. Additionally, loops you create can be saved as WAV files to USB fl ash media and used with the FP-7F’s Audio Key playback feature.

  • Mic Input / Harmony FX

The FP-7F has a built-in mic input for sing-along fun. Plug in a microphone (optional) and experience the powerful built-in harmony engine derived from BOSS’ VE-20 Vocal Performer. You can choose from three types of vocal harmony: Duet (your voice plus one harmony voice), Trio (your voice plus two voices), and Quartet (your voice plus three voices). The harmony engine can detect which chord you play on the keyboard in real time to create its harmony voices; it can also detect chord information from the built-in Session Partner patterns and create matching harmony. The optional RPU-3 Pedal Unit provides hands-free control, letting you turn harmony voices on/off with your feet.
