Why a Digital Piano?
Are digital pianos as good as “real” pianos?

Most people cannot tell the difference between traditional pianos and digital pianos today. This is because modern technology is so advanced that digital pianos can replicate the touch and feel of ‘real’ pianos so accurately.

Do the keys feel real?

Yes. The keys on digital pianos are usually ‘weighted’ so the way they feel to play and react to your input is just like the real thing. Don’t think that digital pianos feel and sound like that old Casio keyboard you got for Christmas in 1986.

Do they need tuning?

No. Digital pianos never go out of tune, so never need tuning.

Do they have the right amount of keys?

Yes. Most digital pianos have the standard 88 keys.

Can I wear headphones to practice?

Yes. When you plug headphones into a digital piano the speakers are disabled so only you can hear the sound. This is ideal for practicing late at night or when you don’t want to disturb anyone. Note: The standard jack socket for headphones is 6.35mm. iPhone headphone plugs are 3.5mm so you would need an adaptor.

Why do digital piano prices vary so much?

The price of a digital piano depends on a number of factors, for example whether the keys are plastic or wooden, whether the speakers are big or small, the amount of extra features it has like rhythms and backings or multi track recordings. The cabinet design and finish is a factor too. Small portable pianos tend to be cheaper than the more traditional looking non-portable ones.

Can I connect my iPhone/iPad?

Many of the Yamaha digital pianos and keyboards allow connection to an iPad/tablet now for various purposes. Yamaha have developed a lot of apps for their instruments, you can read more about them on the App Store.

What about other manufacturers of digital piano?

We are an independent shop but choose Yamaha digital pianos exclusively because they are regarded as the best in the world. You will find Yamaha digital pianos in most music schools, colleges and universities, and teachers nearly always recommend Yamaha because of how authentic the touch and sound is.

A digital piano complete with orchestra

The Yamaha CLP-585 Clavinova Digital Piano takes all the features of its fellow CLP range counterparts and adds even more in the way of voices. Painstaking detail has been paid to sound, feel and looks. Some of the best digital sounds to date all bundled together in a superb, classic upright cabinet. Simply the best.

Real grand expression

Every element of the Yamaha CLP-585 Clavinova Digital Piano works in perfect harmony to deliver the level of realism that you will experience. Yamaha’s history of premium acoustic piano manufacturing has given them the edge on their digital counterparts.

The grand piano sounds of the Yamaha CLP-585 Clavinova Digital Piano were painstakingly sampled from Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial grand pianos that were all tuned and prepared by a master piano technician. Every nuance of your performance will be perfectly captured by Yamaha’s smooth release technology that delivers a response that is near indistinguishable from playing a premium acoustic piano. To trigger these spectacular sounds, the CLP-585 Clavinova Digital Piano comes with Yamaha’s NWX (Natural Wood X) keyboard with synthetic ivory keytops and escapement. The second your fingers touch the keys you will instantly connect with the sheer quality that oozes from the CLP-585.

Over 500 Premium Voices

As well as the astonishing grand piano, the Yamaha CLP-585 Clavinova Digital Piano comes loaded with a total of 10 high quality sounds. Lush electric pianos, deep strings, rich pads and more make the CLP-585 extremely versatile and fun to play. You can even layer and split sounds to deepen your performance.

The CLP-585 even comes with 14 drum kits and is capable of playing back general midi (1 and 2) song files as well as GS song files too.

Intelligent Acoustic Control

One of the main advantages of having a digital piano is the ability to adjust the volume should you need to. The option to practice at night or in the same room as others is now a viable option. This is further accentuated by the double headphone socket. This allows for a student and teacher to practice together in silence if needed. And the Yamaha CLP-585 Clavinova Digital Piano has a further trick up its sleeve. On other digital pianos, if the volume is reduced, sometimes the sound can loose bass and treble making the sound thinner, not so with the CLP-585, the IAC system automatically compensates to keep a rich sound, even at the lowest of volumes.

Virtual Resonance Modelling

The Yamaha CLP-585 Clavinova Digital Piano incorporates Yamaha’s own virtual resonance modelling technology to push the level of realism to new heights. Manipulating speaker positioning and tone escapements in just the right areas to recreate the natural sound field of that of a grand piano. What this means for the performer and immediate audience is that the sound is projected in just the same way as a grand with none of that “trapped in” effect.

Capable sequencer and rhythms

The Yamaha CLP-585 Clavinova Digital Piano has the capability of recording up to 250, 16-track songs. This includes the ability to capture and playback audio via USB. This means you can capture your performance and play it back for practice or performance purposes.

On the subject of practice, the Yamaha CLP-585 Clavinova Digital Piano also has 303 practice tracks built into it’s memory that can be accessed any time and cater for beginners right through to professionals.

Finally, to back up your performance you have a variety of backing rhythms such as jazz, pop, latin and much more. Again, these are all easily accessed from the full dot LCD display which makes operation as simple as possible allowing you to maximise your creativity.
