There is a blog on here already with a very similar title, but that blog was written by Chris Hammond, a highly-knowledgeable-in-all-things-keyboard kind of a person.
Me on the other hand, I’m more of a Clavinova kind of girl, so when I was asked to ‘see what I think’ about an arranger keyboard that everyone seems to be really loving, there was an element of trepidation.
Today, I’m writing to you from my desk, rather itching actually to be shut in a room with the Korg PA5X for at least a day so I can get my teeth (or fingers) into it.
What a fantastic piece of kit!
I am very new to arranger instruments. I tend to cower in the face of anything too technical and my iPhone is about the limits of my technical capabilities, so there was also a small element of fear, rather like David facing Goliath but with an awful lot of buttons.
However, my first impression is that it is far from daunting, in fact, the layout is pretty easy to figure out and the screen is incredibly clear.
I really liked the fact I can tilt the screen which reduces the glare.
The interface itself pretty much does what it says on the tin.
A fun feature is an option for two players that you can switch seamlessly between both using something called a ‘crossfader’ and create some incredible music.
There are SO many options with voices, sounds, backings and what surprised me more than anything was how incredibly realistic these are. Again, having come from the piano route, I was expecting something far less than the richness that met me.
The cello, for example, is so real that you can hear nuances of the bow hitting the strings – amazing!

Join Chris as he enjoys playing the Korg PA5X
I have tended to steer clear of keyboards through my life as, being a pianist, want something where I have control over my left hand working polyphonically if I want it to, rather than playing chords alone. I also think I am a bit of a piano snob!
This is an area I feel that Korg has really worked hard to try to incorporate. This keyboard feels like you have the ability to play much more with my left hand as well as my right. They’ve even won me over more with the introduction of wooden keys on their 88-note version!
Whilst I was far from deep diving into this instrument, I know I want to, but don’t have time just yet, even in one sitting it was pretty easy to follow using both the buttons and the touch screen.
There are an enormous amount of features such as creating your own sound packs and composing and recording that I am itching to get stuck into, so if anyone out there wants to buy me one of these incredible Korg PA5X keyboards I would be as happy as a pig in…a recording studio with a Korg PA5X!

If a courier is used, tracking will be provided by them directly, with a typical arrival time of 1-2 working days.

Smaller items, such as books, discs, etc, will be dispatched via Royal Mail second class.
After purchase, you can download the file either from the order confirmation page or the "Downloads" tab in "My Account".
If you have selected the option to receive a pre-loaded USB stick, then this will be dispatched via Royal Mail.
