Chris here, back with another deep dive into the fantastic Yamaha Smart Pianist app. In this third part of our series, we’re exploring one of the most enjoyable and interactive features—the Styles and Accompaniment section. If you’ve ever dreamed of having a full orchestra or a dynamic band joining you while you play your piano, this is exactly what you need!
First, let’s set the scene. The Smart Pianist app acts as a seamless portal to access the rich features already built into your Yamaha piano. Remember, if you’re using models like the Yamaha Arius series or P series, you won’t find extensive rhythm or accompaniment options. However, if you own advanced models like the CSP or CVP ranges, you’re in for a real treat!
When you open the Styles section from the main menu, you’re greeted with vibrant imagery representing various musical genres. Let’s jump straight into an example:
Imagine sitting at your piano and playing naturally, while the app listens and instantly provides an accompanying band—complete with drums, bass, guitars, and keyboards. It’s effortless, intuitive, and incredibly fun!
The library of styles is extensive and conveniently categorized by genres and decades. Fancy some 80s rock, 70s glam piano, classic 60s rock ‘n roll, disco, or even country and blues? They’re all just a tap away. Each style offers realistic backing tracks designed to match your piano playing seamlessly.
There’s also a handy preview feature, allowing you to quickly sample different styles without committing immediately. Found a favorite? Just tap the star icon, and the style will be neatly added to your Favorites for easy access later.
One of the brilliant things about the app is the way it enhances your performance naturally. The styles offer four intensity variations (A, B, C, D), which mirror the dynamics of a real band—soft verses building up to powerful choruses, complete with natural-sounding drum fills.
But it doesn’t stop there. Smart Pianist also has clever settings like “Dynamics Control,” letting the band respond in real-time to how softly or strongly you play. Set it to “Wide,” and you can truly feel the band following your musical expressions dynamically.
Additionally, the “Auto Section Change” feature automatically shifts between style variations based on your playing intensity, providing a smooth, professional-sounding accompaniment that intuitively follows your lead.
You can further customize your performance with adjustable tempo, volume balancing between piano and accompaniment, and even detailed sound mixing options. The app allows you to pan instruments, add reverb, and create your unique soundscapes. When everything is just right, save your settings in the Registration Memory, giving you quick access anytime you sit down to play.
From energetic pop and rock bands to gentle jazz trios and cinematic orchestral arrangements, the Yamaha Smart Pianist app transforms your home piano sessions into immersive musical experiences. The quality and authenticity of these accompaniments truly make it feel like live musicians are performing alongside you.

*If you have included the optional £180 "Yamaha Premium Service" home delivery & setup option offered on selected products, we will contact you regarding arrangements after purchase.
**The Yamaha CSP Series, Yamaha CVP905 & CVP909, Yamaha CLP875, 885 & 895GP, and Yamaha NU1Xa are all sold on behalf of Yamaha and arrive with us on a per-order basis. As soon as your piano has arrived, we will contact you to organise the appropriate dispatch method. ETA for stock is shown on the product page for those items.
***If you have included the optional £99 home delivery & setup option offered on selected products, we will send your details direct to the installation team, who will contact you within 48 hours to make arrangements.
Depending on which option is most appropriate, we will either contact you to discuss a bespoke ePianos delivery surcharge for goods we can’t package for a 3rd party courier, or otherwise dispatch goods via FedEx or APC.
If a courier is used, tracking will be provided by them directly, with a typical arrival time of 1-2 working days.
Example products: Yamaha PSR-SX920, Yamaha P-225, Yamaha NP-15.
These items will be sent via courier (typically APC or FedEx). On occasion, depending on which is fastest, we will drop-ship directly from Yamaha to your address via UPS or Parcelforce.
Tracking will be provided by the courier, with a typical arrival time of 1-2 working days.
Smaller items, such as books, discs, etc, will be dispatched via Royal Mail second class.
After purchase, you can download the file either from the order confirmation page or the "Downloads" tab in "My Account".
If you have selected the option to receive a pre-loaded USB stick, then this will be dispatched via Royal Mail.
We will contact you regarding any pre-ordered items, and let you know when they arrive so as to arrange delivery with you at a convenient time.
Used items can also be purchased using either of the following options (minimum loan amount of £250 after deposit):

This is a special order "agency" item, and comes to us directly from Yamaha on a per-order basis.
It typically takes 7-10 days for this item to arrive with us, whereupon we'll contact you to discuss the arrangement of delivery.
For any pre-orders, we will contact you as soon as the item arrives with us to schedule a delivery with you, and update you with an ETA.
Occasionally, there may be availability issues with our suppliers, in which case we'll get in touch with you to see if you're happy to wait, or if you'd like to cancel the order and receive a full refund.
