This is a completely free setup for Yamaha PSR-SX920 owners, and it’s one I’ve built through real playing rather than preset tweaking for the sake of it. If you enjoy floaty, layered, emotional piano playing – the kind where you sit down, breathe out, and let the keyboard absorb whatever you’re carrying – this one’s for you.
⬇️ The video below shows the setup in action and explains how it works. ⬇️
A lot of factory sounds are very good – but they can also feel a little clinical. They’re designed to be consistent and predictable, and to sound exactly the same whether the keyboard is in one living room or another halfway around the world.
When I sit down to play, I’m not looking for that.
For me, piano playing is a form of therapy. The piano doesn’t ask questions. It doesn’t judge. It just says, “I’ll take whatever you give me.” Sadness, nostalgia, overwhelm, relief – all of it can be poured out over the keys. And for that to work, the sound coming back at you has to feel forgiving, spacious, and human.
The PSR-SX920 is capable of far more emotional depth than its presets sometimes suggest. With a bit of experimentation – using EQ and Insertion Effects properly, and trusting your ears – you can change the character of the instrument in quite a profound way. That’s exactly what I’ve tried to do here.

This setup – “Piano Like Your Life Depends On It” — is available as a free download here:

It includes three custom-made voices, all built specifically for the Yamaha PSR-SX920 and carefully shaped using its internal processing.
AKG – Piano for the Soul
A soothing, creamy piano with space to breathe. Not brittle, not showy – just wide, warm, and emotionally responsive.
AKG – Choir of the Gods
A gentle, heavenly layer that sits just behind the piano, panned slightly left to add lift and colour without ever demanding attention.
AKG – Spirit Pad
Full-fat nostalgia. Soft movement. A textured undercurrent that adds emotional weight without smothering the piano.
Individually, they’re expressive. Layered together, they create something far more personal and immersive.

Alongside the voices, I’ve included a professionally balanced 6-part Registration, designed to fully exploit them.
It features:
The idea is that within the first 30 seconds, something feels different. The keyboard you’re used to suddenly has a bit more colour, a bit more texture – something slightly unusual that you didn’t quite realise was in there. And that moment of discovery is usually where the smile appears.
The setup is completely free – just add it to your basket and check out as normal via the setup page below:

If you’d rather not load the files yourself, there’s also a plug-and-play USB stick option available at checkout, pre-loaded and ready to go.
This setup also lives on our Downloads page, alongside a growing collection of other free resources, sounds, and settings I’ve made over time.
If you enjoy shaping the PSR-SX920 in a more personal, expressive way – and moving it beyond its out-of-the-box character – it’s well worth having a browse.👉https://www.epianos.co.uk/downloads/
